1. The Farm 🚜
On a sunny farm in the countryside,
Mother Duck sat on her nest.
She had been sitting for many days.
Under her were six white eggs.
She was waiting for them to hatch.
"When will my babies come?" she wondered.
She sat very still and kept them warm.
The other animals walked by her nest.
"Any day now!" said the hen.
Mother Duck nodded and smiled.
2. The Eggs Hatch 🥚
One morning, Mother Duck heard a sound.
Crack! Crack! Crack!
The eggs were hatching!
One by one, little ducklings came out.
They were yellow and fluffy!
"Peep! Peep! Peep!" they said.
Mother Duck counted them proudly.
"One, two, three, four, five!" she said.
But wait! One egg was left.
It was bigger than the others.
It hadn't hatched yet!
"That's strange," said Mother Duck.
"This egg is so big and gray!
I don't remember it being there before."
She sat back down on the big egg.
She waited and waited some more.
3. The Different Duckling 🐣
Finally, the big egg cracked open!
Out came a duckling.
But he didn't look like the others.
He was bigger and gray.
His feathers weren't fluffy and yellow.
"Oh my!" said Mother Duck.
"You don't look like your brothers and sisters!
But you're my baby too."
She nuzzled him with her beak.
The gray duckling peeped happily.
4. First Swimming Lesson 🏊
"Come, children!" said Mother Duck.
"It's time for your first swim!"
She led them to the pond.
One by one, the yellow ducklings jumped in.
Splash! Splash! Splash!
They all swam beautifully!
The gray duckling jumped in too.
He swam even better than the others!
"Well," said Mother Duck,
"you may look different,
but you swim like a champion!"
5. Meeting the Farm Animals 🐔
Mother Duck took her babies to meet the farm animals.
The hens looked at the gray duckling.
"What an ugly duckling!" they clucked.
"He's so big and gray!
He doesn't look like a duck at all!"
The rooster laughed loudly.
"Look at that funny-looking bird!" he crowed.
The gray duckling felt sad.
He tried to hide behind his mother.
Why did everyone say he was ugly?
6. Feeling Alone 😢
Days passed on the farm.
The other ducklings played together.
But they didn't play with the gray duckling.
"You're too ugly!" they said.
"Go away! We don't want you!"
Even his own brothers and sisters were mean!
They pecked at him with their beaks.
The gray duckling felt so lonely.
He sat by himself near the pond.
Tears rolled down his feathers.
"Why am I so different?" he wondered.
7. Running Away 🏃
One night, the gray duckling made a decision.
"I don't belong here," he thought.
"Everyone thinks I'm ugly.
I should leave and find a new home."
So he ran away from the farm.
He waddled through the fields.
He walked through the forest.
He was all alone in the world.
It was scary but he kept going.
"Somewhere I'll find friends," he hoped.
8. The Wild Ducks 🦆
The duckling came to a marsh.
There were wild ducks living there.
"Hello!" said the duckling hopefully.
"May I stay with you?"
The wild ducks looked at him.
"You're the strangest duck we've ever seen!" they said.
"But you can stay if you want.
Just don't get in our way!"
The duckling was happy to have somewhere to rest.
But the wild ducks weren't very friendly.
9. The Autumn Days 🍂
Autumn came and the weather got cold.
The leaves turned red and gold.
They fell from the trees.
The duckling shivered in the cold wind.
He had no warm place to sleep.
One evening, he saw beautiful birds flying overhead.
They were pure white with long necks!
They had graceful wings.
"They're swans!" said an old frog.
The duckling watched them fly away.
"They're so beautiful," he sighed.
"I wish I could be like them."
10. The Hard Winter ❄️
Winter came and it was very cold.
Snow covered the ground.
The pond froze over with ice.
The duckling had nowhere to go.
He was cold, hungry, and alone.
One day he fell asleep on the ice.
His feet froze to the frozen pond!
He couldn't move at all!
"This is the end," he thought sadly.
"I'll freeze here all alone."
But a kind farmer found him!
The farmer carefully broke the ice.
He picked up the duckling gently.
"You poor thing!" said the farmer.
"Come home with me where it's warm."
The farmer saved his life!
11. The Farmer's House 🏡
The farmer took the duckling home.
His children wanted to play with him.
But they were too rough!
They chased him around the house.
The duckling got scared and ran!
He knocked over a milk jug!
Crash! Milk went everywhere!
The farmer's wife screamed!
The duckling flew into a flour sack!
Now he was covered in white flour!
The duckling ran out the door!
He went back into the cold forest.
It was safer out there alone.
He found a small cave to sleep in.
The winter felt very long and lonely.
12. Spring Arrives 🌸
Finally, winter ended!
Spring arrived with warm sunshine!
Flowers bloomed everywhere.
Birds sang happy songs.
The duckling felt the warm sun on his feathers.
"I'm still alive," he thought with wonder.
"I made it through the winter!"
He stretched his wings.
They felt bigger and stronger!
He flapped them a few times.
The duckling walked to a pond.
Beautiful white swans were swimming there!
They were the same birds he saw in autumn!
He remembered how beautiful they were.
"They'll probably laugh at me too," he thought.
13. A Big Surprise 😲
"But I don't care anymore," said the duckling.
"I'd rather be with them and be laughed at
than be alone forever!"
He swam toward the graceful swans.
He bent his head down low.
"Do what you want with me," he said.
"I know I'm ugly.
You can chase me away if you want."
But the swans swam toward him!
"Hello, beautiful swan!" they said.
"Come join us!"
Beautiful swan?
The duckling was confused!
He looked down at the water.
There he saw his reflection.
He couldn't believe his eyes!
14. The Beautiful Swan 🦢
He wasn't gray anymore!
He wasn't ugly anymore!
He had pure white feathers!
He had a long, graceful neck!
He was a beautiful swan!
"I was never a duckling at all!" he realized.
"I was a baby swan the whole time!
That's why I looked so different!"
His heart filled with joy!
He was home at last!
15. True Happiness 💖
The other swans welcomed him warmly.
"You're one of the most beautiful swans we've ever seen!" they said.
The swan felt happier than ever before!
He wasn't ugly!
He wasn't different!
He was exactly who he was meant to be!
Children came to the pond that day.
"Look!" they shouted with delight.
"A new swan! And he's the most beautiful one!"
They threw bread into the water.
The swan thought about his journey.
16. The Happy Ending 🌈
The swan swam gracefully across the pond.
He spread his beautiful white wings.
The sun shone down on his feathers.
He thought about the farm where he was born.
He thought about all the mean animals.
"They called me ugly," he remembered.
"But I was never ugly.
I was just different because I was a swan!
It doesn't matter what others think.
What matters is being true to yourself."
The swan lived happily with his swan family.
He swam in the beautiful pond every day.
He flew through the sky with his friends.
He was never lonely again.
And he was never called ugly again!
He had been through hard times.
But those hard times made him stronger.
Now he knew who he really was.
And that made all the difference.
The swan lived happily ever after!
