Far out in the ocean, the water was very deep.
At the bottom was the Sea King's palace.
It was made of coral and pearls.
The walls shimmered like mother-of-pearl.
It was the most beautiful place in the sea.
The Sea King was a widower.
His mother took care of the palace.
He had six mermaid daughters.
They all were beautiful.
But the youngest was the most beautiful of all.
The little mermaid had a lovely voice.
She loved to sing more than anything.
She had a small garden of her own.
It was round, like the sun.
She planted only red flowers there.
But what she loved most was to hear about the world above!
Her grandmother told her stories.
Stories about ships and cities!
Stories about people who lived on land!
Stories about flowers that smelled sweet!
2. The Fifteenth Birthday 🎂
"When you turn fifteen," said her grandmother,
"you may rise to the surface.
You may sit on the rocks in the moonlight.
You may watch the ships sail by.
You may see the land and cities!"
The little mermaid waited eagerly!
Each of her older sisters turned fifteen.
Each one went to the surface.
Each one came back with wonderful stories!
But the youngest had to wait her turn.
Finally, her fifteenth birthday came!
"You may go now," said her grandmother.
She placed white lilies in her hair.
"Be careful, child," she said.
"The world above can be dangerous!"
The little mermaid rose through the water.
Up, up, up she swam!
The water grew lighter and lighter!
Finally, her head broke through the surface!
She saw the sky for the first time!
3. The Prince 🤴
The sun was setting beautifully.
The clouds were pink and gold.
A large ship sailed nearby.
Music and singing came from it.
The little mermaid swam closer.
She looked through the windows.
There were many people dressed in fine clothes!
The handsomest was a young prince!
It was his sixteenth birthday!
They were celebrating!
The little mermaid couldn't look away.
The prince was so handsome and kind!
He smiled at everyone!
He laughed and danced!
Her heart beat faster as she watched him.
Late that night, a terrible storm began!
Lightning flashed!
Thunder crashed!
Huge waves tossed the ship!
The little mermaid watched in horror!
The ship began to sink!
People jumped into the water!
The prince fell into the sea!
He couldn't swim!
He was drowning!
4. The Rescue 🏥
The little mermaid dove deep!
She swam through the wreckage!
She found the prince sinking!
She grabbed him and held his head above water!
She swam with him all night long!
By morning, the storm had passed.
The little mermaid saw land ahead.
She swam to the shore.
She laid the prince on the sand.
He was still breathing but unconscious.
She kissed his forehead gently.
She swam away and hid behind some rocks.
She wanted to see what would happen to him.
Soon, a young girl came walking by.
She saw the prince and called for help!
People came running!
They carried the prince away!
He opened his eyes.
But he didn't see the little mermaid!
He thought the young girl had saved him!
The little mermaid was sad.
She dove back into the sea.
But she couldn't forget the prince!
She loved him with all her heart!
She wanted to be human more than anything!
5. The Sea Witch 🧙♀️
The little mermaid grew sadder each day.
She could think only of the prince!
Finally, she told her sisters.
"You must be crazy!" they said.
"Humans cannot live in the sea!"
But one sister knew where to find help.
"There is a sea witch," she said.
"She lives in a scary place.
She might be able to help you.
But be careful! She is dangerous!"
The little mermaid swam to the witch's home.
It was a dark, scary place!
Strange creatures lived there!
The sea witch sat on a throne of bones!
She had a pet eel wrapped around her!
"I know why you're here," said the witch.
"You want legs, don't you?
You want to be human!
You want the prince to love you!
I can help you... for a price!"
6. The Terrible Price 💔
"I can make you a potion," said the witch.
"It will give you legs!
But walking will feel like walking on knives!
You will never have a tail again!
And if the prince marries another, you will die!"
The little mermaid was frightened.
But she wanted to be human so badly!
"What is the price?" she asked bravely.
The witch smiled an evil smile.
"Your voice!" she said.
"You have the most beautiful voice in the sea!
Give it to me!
You will never speak or sing again!
But you will have legs!
Do you agree?"
The little mermaid thought about the prince.
She thought about walking on land.
She thought about being human.
"Yes," she said sadly.
"I agree."
7. Becoming Human 🚶♀️
The witch made the potion.
It was green and bubbling!
"Drink this before sunrise!" said the witch.
The little mermaid took the bottle.
She swam to the surface quickly.
She swam to the prince's palace.
She sat on the beach.
She drank the potion!
It burned like fire!
She fainted from the pain!
When she woke up, the sun was rising.
The prince was standing over her!
"Are you all right?" he asked kindly.
She looked down at her body.
She had legs! Beautiful human legs!
But when she tried to speak...
No sound came out!
She had no voice!
She could not tell him who she was!
She could not tell him she saved him!
The prince helped her stand up.
Every step hurt terribly!
It felt like walking on sharp knives!
But she didn't cry out.
She smiled bravely and walked with him.
8. Living at the Palace 👗
The prince brought her to his palace.
He gave her beautiful clothes.
He treated her kindly.
She became his companion.
She went everywhere with him.
The little mermaid was happy to be near him!
Even though every step hurt!
Even though she couldn't speak!
She danced for him gracefully!
She walked with him through gardens!
But the prince loved someone else!
He loved the girl he thought saved him!
"A beautiful girl found me on the beach," he told the mermaid.
"She saved my life!
I want to marry her!"
The little mermaid's heart broke!
She wanted to say, "That was me! I saved you!"
But she had no voice!
She could only listen silently!
Tears filled her eyes!
9. The Wedding 💒
One day, the prince received news.
A princess from another kingdom was coming!
Her father wanted her to marry the prince!
"I won't marry her," said the prince.
"I love the girl who saved me!"
But when the princess arrived...
The prince stared in amazement!
She was the girl from the beach!
She had been visiting that day!
It really was her!
"You saved me!" cried the prince joyfully!
"Now I can marry you!"
The princess smiled and agreed!
The little mermaid felt her heart shatter!
But she smiled sadly and blessed them!
They had a grand wedding on a ship!
The little mermaid wore beautiful silk!
She danced at the wedding!
Every step felt like knives!
But she hid her pain and smiled!
10. The Choice 🌅
That night, the little mermaid stood on the deck.
She watched the stars.
She knew she would die at sunrise!
She would turn into sea foam!
She had lost the prince!
Suddenly, her sisters appeared in the water!
Their beautiful hair was gone!
They had cut it all off!
"We gave our hair to the witch!" they cried.
"She gave us this knife!"
"Kill the prince before sunrise!
Let his blood touch your feet!
You will become a mermaid again!
You will live!
Please, save yourself!"
The little mermaid took the knife.
She went to where the prince slept.
He looked so peaceful next to his new wife!
The little mermaid raised the knife!
But she couldn't do it!
She loved him too much!
She couldn't hurt him!
Even if it meant her death!
She threw the knife into the sea!
She threw herself into the water!
11. Transformation ✨
As the sun rose, she felt herself dissolving.
But she didn't turn into foam!
Instead, she felt herself rising!
She became a spirit of the air!
She was transparent and beautiful!
Other spirits surrounded her!
"Welcome, daughter of the air!" they said.
"You had no soul, but your good deed earned you one!
Mermaids have no souls, but you sacrificed for love!
Now you will earn your place in heaven!"
The little mermaid looked down at the ship.
The prince was sad, looking at the water.
He thought she had fallen overboard!
She wanted to tell him she was fine!
But she couldn't!
She rose higher into the sky!
She joined the daughters of the air!
"For three hundred years, we do good deeds," they told her.
"Then we earn our immortal souls!
You will fly around the world helping people!"
The little mermaid smiled.
She had lost the prince.
But she had gained something greater!
She had learned about true love and sacrifice!
She flew up into the clouds, happy and free!
12. The Legacy 💫
The prince never knew the truth.
But sometimes, on quiet nights,
he felt a gentle breeze.
It seemed to carry a sweet melody.
It reminded him of the sea.
The little mermaid watched over him from above.
She blessed him and his wife.
She blessed all those she loved.
She did good deeds around the world.
Each good deed brought her closer to heaven.
And so the little mermaid found peace.
Not in the way she expected.
Not by marrying the prince.
But by learning that true love means sacrifice.
And that kindness can transform even the saddest ending into something beautiful!
